Publish & Read Agreements: Convenient Open Access Publishing
Since 2024, extensive Publish & Read agreements have enabled TUM researchers to publish their articles Open Access – without having to bear the costs themselves. The TUM Executive Board, the University Library, as well as TUM's research institutes and schools jointly finance these agreements, while the University Library centrally handles the processing of publication fees.
2024: 2,239 Open Access articles by corresponding authors affiliated with TUM
First half of 2025: 1,281 articles
Forecast for 2025: approx. 2,565 articles → +14.6% compared to 2024
Open Access Publication Fund: Support for Additional Articles
For articles not covered by Publish & Read agreements, the TUM Open Access Publication Fund has been available since 2025. Funding is available for publications in purely Open Access journals that meet the eligibility criteria.
Grant: up to €1,000 per article
Procedure: The TUM unit or corresponding author initially pays the publication fees, then submits a reimbursement request to the fund
Payment: Directly to the respective TUM unit (e.g., chair, professorship, institute)
