Visibility & Research Impact
Identity Management & Affiliation
Research impact depends largely on the visibility of scholarly output and its clear attribution to an individual. Academic identity management is an effective means to achieve this, and it results from the interaction of various measures you can implement personally.
We provide you with key information on maintaining your author profiles in identity management services or databases, on active participation in academic networks, and on Open Access publishing of your research results. Another aspect of academic identity management is stating the correct TUM affiliation, in accordance with TUM Publication Guidelines.
ORCID iD: The Standard for the Unique Identification of Authors
TUM recommends that all authors use an ORCID iD. This is a unique identifier that is internationally recognized and used – for example, by publishers or in funding applications. The ORCID iD ensures that your publications are fully discoverable and correctly attributed to you.
Bibliometrics & Publication Indicators
Bibliometric methods measure, compare, and communicate the significance of your scholarly publications. Publishers, universities, and funding organizations use bibliometric methods, such as author- and journal-level indicators, to derive quantitative comparative metrics. We inform you about how common publication metrics work and what they indicate – and what they do not.
DORA Principles
For the assessment of research impact, the responsible use of bibliometric metrics is essential. TUM is a signatory of DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment) and supports the responsible use of metrics in the evaluation of individuals and institutions.
TUMFIS
The research information system TUMFIS is the central instrument for presenting research activities at TUM. It supports researchers in making their work visible and in recording relevant scholarly data – such as publications and research projects. As support for the use of TUMFIS, the University Library provides, among other resources, a help wiki.
