TUMFIS – Research Information System

The Research Information System TUMFIS is the core tool for presenting research activities at the Technical University of Munich. It supports researchers in showcasing their work and documenting their key scientific data – such as publications and research projects – in a standardized way across all organizational units of TUM.

Your Access to TUMFIS

The public portal of TUMFIS provides a general overview of research activities at TUM:

There are two ways to register for the TUMFIS Workspace:

  • TUM Researchers
    To maintain your data in TUMFIS, you need a user account and a personal profile. Researchers at TUM can register via the TUMFIS Wiki. With TUMFIS, you can decide for yourself which selected research information you wish to make available to the general public.
  • Research Support Staff
    Employees and students generally do not have a profile in TUMFIS. However, research support staff may apply for a user account for delegated tasks. Reporting and administrative functions are reserved exclusively for authorized TUM employees.

Why TUMFIS?

TUMFIS creates a single point of information that ensures high data quality and a reliable data basis for the entire university. Research strengths and networks can be represented consistently. The integrated reporting module facilitates reporting obligations, funding applications and enables efficient self-analysis.

The data entered in TUMFIS serve as a binding basis for all performance assessments, reports, and evaluations in the sense of quality assurance prescribed by the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act.

The followin data are included in TUMFIS:

  • Personal data: Names and organizational affiliations of persons working in research at TUM
  • Publications: Publication data are automatically imported from Scopus. Authors check the entries and correct or supplement them as needed.
  • Research projects:
    Projects from 2019 onwards are included and need to be entered manually.
  • Other scientific activities:
    Researchers can individually enhance their profile, e.g. with: Equipment, Patents, Awards and honors, Editorships, Lectures, Research , stays, Guest lectureships, Mentoring of early-career researchers

TUMFIS Essentials

In TUMFIS Essentials – Visibility for Research Performance at TUM, you will receive all the essential information on how to use the university-wide research information system TUMFIS. We will guide you through key functions to help you successfully enter your data: user account management, data sources, data categories, as well as roles and permissions. A well-invested hour for getting started or refreshing your knowledge – TUMFIS made easy!

Dates & Registration 

Support

The project for the implementation of the system is led by the TUM Strategy and Excellence Development team. Operational management and support are provided by the TUM University Library.
