Linking Service SFX

With the SFX linking service, we facilitate your access to electronic full texts. SFX links your search results in databases and search portals with our print and electronic media holdings.

What is SFX?

SFX is a link resolver that connects your search results with our library holdings. Using OpenURL links, SFX provides direct access to electronic full texts as well as alternative options for obtaining and requesting materials. The SFX service page displays the available options to help you access the literature you have found as quickly and efficiently as possible.

How can I use SFX?

When searching in databases such as Scopus or in discovery tools like Google Scholar, you will encounter the following button:

SFX-Button

By clicking the button, you are taken to the SFX service page, which lists various options for accessing the requested literature. Ideally, you will be provided with a direct link to the electronic full text—provided that the TUM University Library has licensed access to the e-resource.
In addition, further options are displayed, including print, interlibrary loan, and document delivery services.

The SFX service page may include the following options:

  • Link to the electronic full text
  • Link to further search in the local library catalog TUM OPAC
  • Link to holdings of other libraries within the Bavarian Library Network
  • Link to request the item via interlibrary loan or dokumenTUM
  • Link to the order form of the fee-based direct delivery service subito

When you are redirected to catalogs and ordering platforms, your bibliographic data is transferred automatically.

Authentication Required for E-Resources

Please note: SFX is not an authentication service. To access licensed electronic resources, TUM members must authenticate or use one of the Library Computers. The latter option is also available to external users.

The following authentication options are available to TUM members for free access to licensed electronic resources:
