subito

subito is a fee-based, fast document delivery service providing access to international scientific literature from academic libraries in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and China. Users can order copies of articles and chapters from printed journals and books.

What can I Order via subito?

subito is a document delivery service that provides access to the holdings of participating academic libraries in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and China (China direct). Registered users can place fee-based orders for scans or copies of journal articles or partial copies from books. In addition, loanable items from the literature collections of the participating libraries can be borrowed internationally for a fee.

The subito catalog includes:

  • approx. 1 million printed journals from all subject areas and in all languages
  • approx. 3.5 million stock references from supplier libraries

The subito document delivery is available to anyone who requires literature for study, research, or teaching. 

Searching for academic literature in journals and book catalogs is free. The registration is required to place an order.

Finding Journals & Books in subito

Journals

Searching and ordering in the subito journal catalogs is always done via the journal reference. Therefore the following information must be available:

  • journal title or distinctive parts of the title 
  • ISSN number

Books

Searches for books are carried out in the subito book catalogs. The following bibliographical data of the book is necessary:

  • Book title or distinctive parts of the title
  • Author, editor or publisher, where applicable
  • ISBN, where applicable
  • Year of publication and/or the edition, where applicable
  • Publishing house, where applicable
  • Relevant volume if the work comprises several volumes

If you only require certain pages from a book, you can order them as partial copies.

China direct

Selected Chinese libraries also participate in the subito document delivery service. Registered users can search for Chinese literature in a dedicated catalog and order, e.g., copies of articles from scientific journals.

Costs, Delivery & GTCs

Costs

The prices of subito are determined by a set of criteria. These include:

  • Method of delivery (copy delivery or loan)
  • User group
  • Normal or express service
  • License fees or royalties for the settlement of copyright claims
  • Delivery type: 
  • Client's place of residence and the supplier library's head office

Delivery

Offered delivery types include e-mail, mail, fax, or electronic delivery with active or passive Digital Rights Management (DRM). 

You have two delivery time options:

  • Normal Orders: processing within a maximum period of 72 hours
  • Express Orders: processing within a maximum period of 24 hours

The processing time is calculated based on working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. This is measured from the day the order arrives until delivery. The delivery time is not included in the processing time. Please note that for delivery by mail, the mailing time must be added.
