Publishing B.A. and M.A. Theses
Publishing your B.A. or M.A. Thesis Electronically
The University Library offers TUM students the possibility to publish their theses in electronic form on mediaTUM, the publication server of TUM. e.g.
- bachelor thesis
- master thesis
- diploma thesis
Step 1: Obtaining Faculty Approval
The basic requirement for the publication of your work on mediaTUM is that your faculty agrees in written form. Therefor, you will receive by e-mail later in the publication process the form "Abschluss- und Prüfungsarbeiten: Antrag auf elektronische Veröffentlichung". Please clarify in advance whether the supervisor of your thesis generally agrees to publication.
Step 2: Submit author and title data of your work
Start the online work “Publish on mediaTUM”. There you will find an input mask where you can enter your author data and the title data of your work.
Step 3: Upload your work as PDF
The next step is to upload your work to our server as a PDF file. Please make sure to upload the final version of your thesis. This must be identical – both in form and content – with the version submitted at your faculty. Once you have uploaded your PDF, no further changes are possible. You can remove the CV (or personal data), the affidavit, and any scanned signatures for publication.
Only PDF format is allowed. Please check the metadata of your PDF file before uploading. These data are evaluated and displayed by search engines and are also visible on the Internet. The metadata can be viewed and changed in the properties of the PDF file.
Step 4: Sign author's contract and approval form
You will then receive an e-mail with the form "Abschluss- und Prüfungsarbeiten: Antrag auf elektronische Veröffentlichung" and an author contract granting the University Library the rights to publish your work on mediaTUM. Please print out the contract twice and send the signed form and the signed author's contract in duplicate to the University Library by (internal) post (Technische Universität München, Universitätsbibliothek. Sending by fax is not sufficient.
Step 5: Confirmation of publication
Once all data and documents (faculty approval, author contract and PDF upload) have been received by the University Library, we check your PDF for long-term archivability, indexability of the full text, free accessibility (no password protection) and accuracy of the data. Only then we publish your work on mediaTUM. Finally, you will receive a confirmation by email that your work has been published.
