Standards

As an official standards information point, the TUM University Library gives you access to an extensive collection of national and international standards and technical rules.

Standards via Nautos

We provide Nautos as the primary research tool for standards. In the reference database, you will find bibliographic records for more than 2.6 million national, European, and international standards as well as technical regulations. Full texts are available online for selected licensed standards.

DIN Standards

DIN standards of the German Institute for Standardization (Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V., DIN) are available via Nautos in full text. The reference database includes:

  • valid DIN standards, including draft standards, preliminary standards, and supplements
  • withdrawn DIN standards

Legal Information

DIN standards are protected by copyright (see also: DIN Media's Information on the reproduction of DIN Standards). Their use and reproduction are subject to contractual agreements between the TUM University Library and DIN Media.

Terms of Use for TUM Members
  • Reproduction (by downloading, copying, scanning, or printing) is permitted only for internal university, non-commercial purposes (science, research, and teaching).
  • The reproduction of DIN standards for training purposes at the TUM is permitted, but copies must be marked with the TUM stamp and collected after the lecture.
  • It is permitted to make DIN standards available in digital course reserves, provided they are marked with a TUM stamp. To do so, please print them, mark them with the TUM stamp and scan them again for uploading on Moodle.
  • Any unauthorized reproduction, disclosure to third parties, or systematic downloading carries a mandatory fine for infringement and is punishable by law.
Terms of Use for External Guests
  • External guests are only allowed to view and consult DIN standards. Full text access is available on library computers at all branch libraries.
  • Reproductions – regardless of the method used (e.g. copying, printing, filming, transcribing, scanning, data transfer, etc.) – are not permitted due to licensing. It carries a mandatory fine for infringement and is punishable by law.
  • Should you need a DIN Standard in printed form, please contact your local bookseller or DIN Media directly.

VDI Guidelines

VDI guidelines issued by the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e. V., VDI) can be accessed in full text via Nautos. The reference database includes:

  • current VDI guidelines
  • withdrawn VDI guidelines

ISO Standards

ISO standards by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) are searchable in Nautos. Full-text access is available for all valid ISO standards and draft standards.

DWA Rules

The DWA rules of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall e. V., DWA) are available via Nautos. The full texts of current ATV guidelines, DWA working sheets, and DWA information sheets are included. DWA thematic documents are not included.

No Full Texts in Nautos

The following standards are not available in full text via Nautos:

  • National standards, e.g., from France (AFNOR), Great Britain (BSI), or the USA (ANSI)
  • VDE regulations and DIN‑VDE standards:
    These are listed in Nautos, but access to full texts is only possible via the VDE Normenbibliothek.
  • IEEE Standards: Access to these is provided through the IEEE Xplore database.
  • Withdrawn VDI guidelines: These are available in printed form only. Please inquire at the circulation desks of the branch libraries.
  • ASTM Standards: These have no longer been licensed at TUM since 2022.

Eurocodes

Eurocodes are harmonized rules applied throughout Europe for structural design in the construction sector. They are developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The University Library provides online access via mediaTUM to the full texts of all ten Eurocodes in English.

Eurocodes – Access Information

FGSV Technical Standards

The FGSV technical standards comprise technical guidelines issued by the German Road and Transportation Research Association (Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen, FGSV). The University Library provides TUM members and external users with online access to the full texts. Due to licensing restrictions, off‑campus access via eAccess is not possible.

IEEE Standards

IEEE Standards are available in full text via IEEE Xplore. In addition to the standards, the database provides access to millions of publications from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), including IEEE journals, conference proceedings, and e-books.

DVGW Set of Rules

The DVGW set of rules of the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) includes, among other things, technical rules and DIN standards for the gas and water sector. The University Library provides TUM members and external users with online access to the full texts.

VDE Standards

You can search for VDE standards in the database Normenbibliothek of the VDE publishing house. You have full-text access to all VDE regulations, including drafts, withdrawn, and historical regulations.

For licensing reasons, it is not possible to download files.

International Standards

Full texts of international standards that are not available in our portfolio can be purchased from the Foreign Standards Service of DIN Media.
