Library Account

For borrowing literature and ordering via TUM OPAC, you need a library account. Active TUM members receive this automatically at the start of their studies or employment at TUM. The TUM StudentCard, PersonalCard, or GuestCard serves as the library card. External users and TUM alumni can apply for a library card free of charge.

Active TUM Members

If you study, work, or hold guest status at TUM, a library account is automatically created for you. You can use your digital or physical StudentCard, PersonalCard, or GuestCard as your library card. Please note the following details when logging in:

TUM Students

As a TUM student, you are automatically registered to use the library. You can log into the TUM OPAC with your TUM ID to order library items, check your library account, and access online resources. Please bring your TUM StudentCard when picking up the requested items.

TUM University Library

To use our services, specifically access to our online resources, you only need your TUM ID. As a TUM member, you automatically receive authorization for remote access to our e-media.

LIV – Heilbronn Central Library

To use the LIV library, you must register in person at the Heilbronn Central Library. Please bring the following documents:

your TUM StudentCard
your ID card or passport

Students in Cooperative TUM LMU Degree Programs

If you are enrolled at both TUM and LMU, you are automatically registered for library use, provided you have a TUM ID.

If you only hold an LMU student card, please apply for an additional TUM StudentCard at the TUM Center for Study and Teaching. This will give you a TUM ID, which allows you to log into the TUM OPAC, order library items, check your library account, and access online resources. Please bring your TUM StudentCard to pick up the requested items.

TUM Staff Members

As a TUM staff member, you are automatically registered for library use. You can log into the TUM OPAC with your TUM ID to order library items, check your library account, and access online resources. Please bring your TUM PersonalCard to pick up the requested items.

TUM Guests with TUMonline Account

If you have guest status at TUM and a TUMonline account, you are automatically registered for library use. You can log into the TUM OPAC with your TUM ID to order library items, check your library account, and access online resources. Please bring your TUM GuestCard when picking up requested materials.

External Users and TUM Alumn

Even if you are not an active member of TUM, you are welcome to use the TUM University Library. You can apply for a library card free of charge at one of our branch libraries. Please bring the following documents with you:

Students from Other Universities

Visit one of our branch libraries and fill out a registration form.

Please bring the following documents:

your valid ID card
or your passport in combination with proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung")
or your residence permit
your current student ID

Individuals Under Age 18

For registration you need to provide the signature of a parent or legal guardian on the registration form. Please follow these steps:

Complete the registration form in full.
Print out the form.
Ask your parent or legal guardian to sign it.
Bring the signed form to one of our branch libraries.

Additionally, please bring the following documents:

your ID card
or your passport in combination with proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung")
your parent's or legal guardian's ID card or a copy of the document

TUM Alumni

Even after leaving TUM, you can continue to use the library. Simply have your library account converted at one of our branch libraries. You will then receive a library card and a library number.

Change of Address • Account Extension • Lost Card

Below you will find information on what you need to do in the following cases:

Change of address – it is important that we always have your current address
Account extension – especially after leaving TUM
Lost card – please contact us in the event of loss, theft, or damage

Please update your address in the campus system TUMonline.

Renewal

Your library account remains active as long as you are enrolled at TUM. No renewal is required.
After you leave TUM, you may continue to use the library. You simply need to have your library account converted at one of our branch libraries. Please bring your identity card or passport in combination with proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung").

Loss of StudentCard

Notification
Please contact our First Level Hotline immediately. We will then temporarily block your library account to prevent misuse by third parties. In addition, please inform the TUM Center for Study and Teaching about the loss of your StudentCard.
Reissue
To obtain a replacement card, please contact the TUM Center for Study and Teaching. All details

TUM Staff Members

Change of Address

Please report your change of address to the Human Resources Department ZA2. The updated data will then be automatically forwarded to us.

External Users

Change of Address

Please have your address updated in person at one of our branch libraries. Bring along your valid ID card or passport in combination with proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung").

Renewal

Your library card is valid for one year. You can have it reactivated at one of our branch libraries. Please bring your ID card or passport in combination with proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung").
If you do not use your library account for more than three years, your data will be deleted for data protection reasons. You can apply for a new library card at one of our branch libraries.

Loss of Library Card

Reissue
Afterward, you can reapply for a new library card at one of our branch libraries.
