TUM-Account: FAQ & Support
Authentication via Shibboleth
Some providers of databases and other electronic resources offer an institutional login. In these cases, you can log in via the TUM Shibboleth service.
Proceed as follows:
- First, search our portals for databases, e-books or e-journals and open the desired electronic resource.
- On the provider’s entry page, look for a link to Shibboleth login. This is often labeled “Institutional Login”, “Login via your institution” or similar.
- Enter your home institution as “Technische Universität München”, “TU München”, “TUM” or “Technical University of Munich”. The wording may vary. In some cases, you may first need to select a region or group: choose “German Higher Education and Research (DFN-AAI)”.
- You will then be redirected to the TUM web authentication service, where you log in using your TUM account credentials.
- You will subsequently be redirected back to the original provider – authenticated as a TUM member.
Shibboleth & Data Security
Authentication is done exclusively through the Technical University of Munich. TUM only verifies and confirms to the service provider that you have been correctly authenticated as a TUM member. TUM IDs and passwords are not transmitted to external service providers or stored on third-party systems.
