Active TUM members, like students and employees, can use Citavi free of charge under our campus license.

First download the free version of Citavi and install it on your computer. - Citavi Account
To be able to use the full version and work with cloud projects, please register for a Citavi Account with your TUM e-mail address. Authentication with a freemailer address (e.g. web.de, GMX, Gmail) is not possible. - License Key
Open Citavi and click on the login icon in the start window. Enter your access data for your Citavi account. The license information is now automatically recognized.

The University Library offers students, faculty, and employees access to the full desktop version of Citavi for Windows and Citavi web as part of a campus license.

By using Citavi, you agree to the Privacy Police and Terms of Use.
- The Citavi license is limited to a single user. You may install the software on a computer or a network drive.
- At the end of your studies or your employment at the TUM, you may no longer use the full version via the TUM campus license.
License extension until 30.09.2026
TUM extended the Citavi license for all TUM students and employees. You can transfer the new license data by logging in to your Citavi account. In section “Citavi Desktop & Web Bundle” click on "Citavi – valid until 2026". To confirm that you are enrolled or working at TUM, request an email to your TUM email address and confirm the link contained. Afterward, you can use Citavi until further notice – or until you leave TUM.
TUM also has an up-to-date license for the web version of Citavi, which allows you to work on any operating system.
If you are an IT admin for staff computers, please follow the steps in the manual to transfer the current license period to the PCs you administer.
Features
Citavi is a reference management program for Microsoft Windows, which supports your entire research process - from searching for sources to citing and finishing your paper. In addition to classical references management tools, Citavi offers functions for knowledge organization and task planning. An online search feature allows you to search databases and catalogs from within the program. With the new web version of Citavi, you can create and manage projects regardless of the operating system – Mac OS, Windows, or Linux. All you need is an internet connection and a Citavi account.

Find Full Texts Licensed by TUM
To search for TUM-licensed resources in Citavi, add the following URLs under "Tools" → “Options” → “RSS / OpenURL” → “Find full text”:

- EZproxyURL: https://tum-eaccess.de/login
When you open the “Find Full Text” function afterward, you can log in via the link “Log in at https://tum-eaccess.de/login”. Authenticate using your TUM ID. After logging in, you can close the window.
