Publishing Habilitation Theses
Electronic Publishing of Your Habilitations Thesis
The University Library offers you the opportunity to publish your habilitation thesis electronically on mediaTUM, TUM’s publication server.
Step 1: Entering Author and Title Data
Complete the online workflow for the electronic publication of your habilitation thesis (via eAccess, if you are not on the TUM campus).
Please first select the option “Habilitation” and then choose the desired language. You will then be provided with an input form where you can enter your author details and the title data of your work.
Step 2: Uploading Your Habilitation Thesis as a PDF
In the second step, upload your habilitation thesis as a PDF file to our server. Please ensure that the uploaded version corresponds exactly in form and content to your habilitation thesis. Once the PDF has been uploaded, no further changes are possible. Do not forget to click “Finish” to complete the upload process.
Step 3: Signing the Author Agreement
You will then receive an email containing an automatically generated author agreement, by which you grant the University Library the rights to publish your work on mediaTUM. Please print the agreement twice and send both signed copies to the University Library by (internal) mail (Technische Universität München, Universitätsbibliothek, Support E-Dissertationen, Arcisstraße 21, 80333 München).
Step 4: Confirmation of Publication
Authorization to publish the habilitation thesis must still be confirmed by the Office of Doctoral Affairs (TUM Center for Study and Teaching – TUM CST). Once all data and documents (author agreement and data upload) have been received by the University Library, we will check your PDF for long-term archiving suitability, full-text indexability, open accessibility (no password protection), and data accuracy. Only then will your work be published on mediaTUM. Finally, you will receive an email confirmation that your work has been published.
Submission of Printed Mandatory Copies
According to the Habilitation Statutes of the Technical University of Munich, you are not required to publish your habilitation thesis.
The printed mandatory copies of your habilitation thesis are sent by the respective dean’s office to the Central Examinations Office – Habilitation. There, you will also receive confirmation of the submission of the mandatory copies.
