4D BIM-Based Augmented Reality Navigation System for Tower Crane Operation

Zhiyang Lin ORCID iD

This dissertation analyzes the safety and efficiency issues in tower crane operations, indicating the wrong lifting timeline as the root cause. Then, it proposes an operation navigation system based on 4D BIM and AR, including 4D BIM-based lifting planning, AR for operation visualization, and AR for operation monitoring and hint. This new concept can provide the optimal lifting timeline for tower crane operation, improving two issues. Also, it can be applied to many valuable construction situations, such as modular construction, automatic tower crane, and infrastructure.
